Pumpkin Patch Baby

A few days ago, we spent an early afternoon at the Richmond Country Farms in the Steveston area of Richmond, BC. Believe it or not, ive never been to a pumpkin patch myself as a child or as an adult because ....well...no good reason why except no one has ever really taken us, never really had it in a list of to-do's, and pumpkins were readily available at Superstore. But of course, since having a child, there's an opportunity to live vicariously through them and visit all these places one has never been to or wanted to return to for creation of some (more) memorable experiences. We definitely have our own bucket list with Max, from small (like the Stanley Park ghost train) to big (like a big Philippines reunion), there's just so much we want to do! I think I need to up the frequency of my lotto ticket purchases ;o)

The weather has been on the foggy side around Vancouver lately, and our pumpkin patch day was no exception. I have no qualms about fog, I think it's kinda romantic (Casablanca?)! It provided perfect travelling weather with a toddler because the car was kept cool, the outdoor lighting was perfect, and it all added to the Fall mood. The day we went was also a provincial-wide professional day for the schools...the place was packed! I liked it because of the energy, i didnt like the line-ups but whatever...the place was very family oriented and service was fast. I had fun, Max appeared to be having fun, and husband got to pick out the pumpkins he wanted (or rather, the ones he would be prepared to lug for the entire afternoon).

^^ waiting in the line and I hear Max squealing. I thought he was excited about the patch, but alas! he was excited about the real live chickens and rooster ^^

^^ I hope he wasn't cold (3 layers on), but this was the first time he put his hands in his pockets! ^^

^^ going to the patch in style ^^

^^ live music took the ride to another level ^^

^^ pumpkins galore!! ^^

^^ here's where we first heard the word "heavy" come out of him ^^

^^ the obligatory steering wheel. he LOVES steering wheels ^^

^^ the second best apple's we've ever eaten in our entire lives! (and we eat a lot of apples)

We totally had fun at the pumpkin patch and will make this an annual feature with our kid(s)! it was definitely worth missing the exit and going way out of our way thanks to the GPS who goes by the books vs. the obvious shortcut resulting in some wasted valuable time! We ended up with 3 pumpkins about the size of a durian. Gene says his sole criteria for choosing the chosen were strong, solid stems (must be a phallic thing) ha!

Have a great Halloween and stay safe!
